The Fenwick Market is an annual two-day makers, arts, food and music market. Held in late may, the market is set on our small family farm in Fenwick, Ontario. Since it's small beginnings, TFM has become a beloved local event, each year we focus on getting better not bigger. In 2024, The Fenwick Market became an officially registered non-profit under Market Friends Canada. TFM is driven by a deep love for community, the arts and bringing people together to support important causes.

Meet Laura of @lilahlaneco

"Lilah Lane began nine years ago while I was on maternity leave with my second child, Lilah. I’ve been a self-taught sewist since I was young, always drawn to creating and experimenting on my mom’s sewing machine.

Lilah Lane is about children’s clothing designed to grow with little ones. Ensuring comfort, quality, and long lasting clothes.

In 2018, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with stage 4, incurable breast cancer. I initially started selling off my fabric stash, thinking I needed to prepare for the worst, after all the life expectancy was just 1-3 years. I quickly realized sewing wasn’t something I could give up. It became my outlet, my therapy, and a vital piece of normalcy when everything else felt uncertain.

Today, almost seven years later, I’m still here, thriving, and so is Lilah Lane!"

"To me, a market community is about connection. Makers supporting makers, small businesses lifting each other up, and customers finding pieces that are created with heart. It’s a place where creativity, passion, and community all come together, and where every purchase means supporting someone’s dream."

Just in case • we know we've had to clarify a few times this year. The long weekend is May 17, 18 + 19 and our market is the weekend after!

We like to plan the market on a weekend in May that doesn't interrupt any long weekend activities!

This market is a love letter to locals so we plan it so most of us can be in town and take advantage of the incredible things Fenwick has to offer between TFM and the Fenwick Lions Club Carnival

Meet Sherri of @creative_mylestones

"I started this maker journey during my first mat leave 6 years ago. It took a bit to narrow my craft but now there’s no turning back. I love felt because of the variety of projects that I can create. I enjoy making my own patterns and experimenting with new ideas. My favourite project are the tooth fairy pillows. I think it’s the sewing and how whimsical they are. My day job I am a Recreation Therapist at a local hospital. I get to work with a geriatric population by providing daily programs which typically have a creative component to them. I love how much creative expression I get to do in my career and also for myself when i create for Creative Mylestones. Crafting truly is my outlet. When I'm not crafting my family and I are found working on our acreage. This includes tending to our chickens, turkey, bunnies, cat and dogs. We love gardening in the summer and making maple syrup in the winter. "

••What do markets mean to you?••

"The market community is so special. It truly is wonderful to spend time among other makers and see their passions. I tend to leave each market feeling refreshed and motivated. There’s something magical about setting up as a vendor, connecting with a booth neighbour who becomes an instant friend and meeting new people. The engagement that you get at a market is unmatched. Hearing a compliment from someone visiting your booth just hits differently."

The Fenwick Market may have been our dream. But it's all of you who make it a reality. Some of you have even played such a role that you've become a part of the very spirit of our beloved market.

This is one of those people.

We first met Tommy when he came to visit the farm a few weeks before our very first market. He came to do a site visit with his beautiful wife @alonajanephotography . We remember this well because our big mower got stuck in the lower field...and there was Tommy, no hesitation - right in the mud helping get it out. That sort of sums it up, from that very first year Tommy has been there, helping, doing things he doesn't have to do because he knows they need doing. There's probably a few vendors on here who've been helped by Tom, setting up or taking down.

When you read in the comments "it's more than just a market" and you wonder what the heck it's all about • this is sort of it. It's about what happens when business becomes personal, when a community comes together to support each other.

So this year if you're at the market you'll probably see Tom, he'll be doing something nice for someone and he probably won't be wearing shoes. Thanks Tommy, TFM wouldn't be the same without you.

We love seeing families at TFM, as parents ourselves we know how important it is to have a few things for the littles when you're heading to an event like this.

We will be honest though! You won't find bouncy houses or anything like that here (though we love a good bouncy house) we decided to focus on slower activities for kids and their parents, so the activities actually become part of the day out and add to the time you spend with them!

You'll find scavenger hunts, I Spy and a colouring station by our Mama Nursing Tent

This year we also have a few new things we can't wait for your littles to do and see!

• A rock painting area (stay tuned for more on this)
• A read aloud in our bookstore area!
• A live painting and a paint by numbers community mural!!

Meet Stephanie of @bears.basket

"My name is Stephanie and I am a mama to six year old twin girls. Bear’s Basket started as a passion project and something to keep me busy when my daughters were really young. Over the years I developed a strong passion for creating products my daughters could play with and I wanted to share that passion with others. Bear’s Basket then turned in to a small business with a focus on creating one of a kind handmade stuffed animals and dolls from new, repurposed and dyed fabrics. Bear’s Basket is also a homage to my best fur friend ‘Bear’ who still inspires me every day. "

"The market community means so much to me. I have met so many wonderful people who have become solid figures in my life just through sharing a collective passion for creativity and supporting small businesses.
I had no idea that my little business could thrive in an environment like this and having people believe in you and support your work is the best feeling ever."

It can be a really, really good feeling when someone, especially a stranger who has no "reason" and isn't "just doing it to be nice" tells you they like something you created. When they admire your work, something you made, anything really.

Let's just have that be the normal thing to do - let's make admiration and affirmation a part of our daily lives.

Meet Lauren @the.collector.crafts.co

"I started my business last year as a way to combine my love of crafting with my passion for sustainability. Every piece of jewellery is handmade by me using second-hand silverware, meaning that when you make a purchase you are supporting sustainable practices and giving a once-forgotten item a new life. Each piece carries its own unique history, and many are one-of-a-kind designs.

The name The Collector was inspired by the story that magpie collect shiny objects. I love the idea that something small or overlooked can be transformed into something beautiful when seen in a new perspective. That’s exactly what I aim to do with my work.

Countless hours go into creating each piece, and I’m so excited to share them with you at the Fenwick Market!"

If you're like us and you just live to check the weather app (sometimes several times a day - who does that?!) you probably have a smile on your face.

It looks like Mother Nature just hit the defrost button and we are ready for it.

We are ready for the dirt, the buds, the bird songs 🌱 bring on the worms and even the rain.

The fact that so many people come out each year and enjoy our market, enjoy the incredible art and creativity, the food and coffee - well it means the world!

• 7 Weeks • Can you believe it!?

We are getting ready 🎉 Every single day something is happening around here to prepare for TFM.

Right now it's A LOT of raking leaves, just so much raking - then when that's done, there's actually just more raking. It's all these little things that go into making our property ready for all of you, and giving our spot the care it deserves. Even the Wisteria is getting some love this coming week!

Many of our makers are starting to prepare for all the Spring markets coming up! Once the weather changes it feels like all we want to do is be outside and be together.

You know that feeling when you're just not sure if you're where you're supposed to be?

When you show up somewhere and you're not sure if you're in the right place. Are you too late? Too early? Are you allowed in this area? Are you supposed to wait, or should you go right ahead?

We've felt that in our work environments. It's like the first day of school or of a new job. You don't quite know the lay of the land so you experience the stress of trying to be confident - but not pushy, competent - but not too "intense".

If you've ever shown up somewhere and felt unsure you're in the right place, felt embarrassed or confused about where you're supposed to go or what to do next. We are with you.

In chatting with one of our lovely makers, we realized what a common source of stress this is for so many. She spoke to the importance of making others feel welcome - thank you @niagarahomespunbotanicals

So what can we can do to fix that? To restore that confidence and make you feel you belong?

Here's what we think: friendly faces, clear direction and a lot of grace if (when) mistakes are made.

Let's create an environment where the people "in charge" smile and make vendors and guests feel welcome. Where direction is given in a calm and friendly manner. Where the other vendors and guests who've been around, welcome new people with warmth and enthusiasm and show them the ropes.

Let's skip the stress of "figuring it out" and "hey not in there!" "No no, to the left!" and go straight to that feeling like you're a part of the groove - like you're exactly where you're supposed to be. This is so important, not only to the vendor experience, but to the guest experience - can't you tell the difference when the vendors at a show are having a good time?

If we can do this in a market setting, during the craziness of set-ups, sales, take-down, parking and everything else, could we do it in our day to day lives? Could we share our hard won experiences with one another, to help them thrive, without robbing anyone of natural growth? We think so! We think of TFM as a way to practice our best business, and hopefully inspire all to support each other everyday. What do you think?

It's a whole new market countdown, which means it's a whole new opportunity to share our views and highlight important themes in the arts, maker and small business community.

The release of our 2025 Artwork.

This is the collab of market dreams - we were so stoked when the talented team of creators @quitealright hopped on board to create the artwork for our fourth year.

You may know them as the people behind @welldonemakersmarket ,another local market that supports small and dreams big.

We wanted to bring those two worlds together and knew that these artists would be the right ones for the job.

The 2025 art features a few of our favourite things - let's start with those pups - we love dogs and so does TFM - then they expertly highlighted the vintage vibes, the feel of our live music sets - shoutout to TFM OG @brandonagnewmusic - and of course Orange Crush @greenbrier_vintage - and finally, a beloved landmark, a little ode to our Wisteria. @quitealright absolutely killed it and we are honoured to collab with such a pillar of the market community.
